25-year-old Reuel Hernandez is from Cavite and was born with a cataract in his left eye.
Since he was a child, he has never been able to see clearly without his eyeglasses on. His parents were separated, so Reuel was sent to live with his grandmother.
Growing up, Reuel became a self-conscious, shy person. His father, Henry, whom he also spent time with when he was young, said that Reuel rarely talks about himself or shares his problems with him.
“I know he’s been through a lot in life and I admit to all my shortcomings to him as his father,” shared Henry. “That’s why when he told me that his vision is starting to deteriorate, I really did my best to seek help so he can receive proper treatment,” he added.
Henry tried to seek assistance from different organizations to help his son but failed to secure enough resources to have Reuel’s eye operated. He was starting to lose hope that time until he was connected to Operation Blessing (OB), the humanitarian arm of CBN Asia.
Later, Henry was contacted by the OB’s Healthcare Programs Coordinator, advising that Reuel is chosen to be a recipient of the Life-Changing Surgery (LCS) of the program.
“My son and I did not really expect that God would have to use a big organization like Operation Blessing to answer our prayer,” said Henry.
Aside from the gift of eyesight, Henry also expressed gratitude to OB for a memorable opportunity given to him. “Thank you for giving me the chance to make it up to my son. I am glad and very thankful to all the donors who make this possible. We will never forget the kindness you’ve shown us.”
